Air Peace Denies Involvement in Ajaero’s Arrest

Air Peace has officially distanced itself in the recent arrest of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero. The airline’s spokesperson, Omotade Makinwa, made this clarification in response to media reports linking the company to the arrest.

In the statement, Makinwa expressed the airline’s surprise at the reports, clarifying that Ajaero’s arrest was unrelated to a prior petition filed by Air Peace against the NLC in September 2023. He noted that media coverage misrepresented the current relationship between the two organizations.

“Air Peace’s legal team had lodged a formal complaint with the Nigerian Police against the NLC, following industrial actions that disrupted our operations. Despite numerous follow-ups, the police did not take immediate action,” Makinwa explained.

He further stated that while the police eventually acted on the petition over a year later, resulting in the alleged arrest of the NLC President, the matter had already been resolved between Air Peace and the NLC. The airline had since withdrawn its petition, and both parties had re-established a positive working relationship.

Makinwa emphasized that the arrest was an independent police action and should not be linked to Air Peace, stressing the company’s commitment to maintaining a healthy relationship with the NLC moving forward.
