The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has ordered the removal of a Divisional Crime Officer at the Abraka Division, SP Ibrahim Ishaku, over an extortion case of N2,465,000.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement partly read, “Following the reported case of extortion of the sum of Two Million, four hundred and sixty-five thousand naira (#2,465,000) by the DCO 2 Abraka Division.

“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Abaniwonda Olufemi on receipt of this disturbing report directed the DPO Abraka to report at the headquarters alongside the DCO 2 SP Ibrahim Ishaku.

“The CP after getting brief of the disturbing incident immediately ordered the removal of the DCO 2 SP Ibrahim Ishaku with immediate effect and the officer issued a query for misconduct.”

In the statement, the CP reiterated that the command under his watch will deal decisively with any recalcitrant officer who carries out any form of misconduct, extortion, or incivility to members of the public while hoping that this will serve as a deterrent to others.

Newsmediang reports a similar event, as the Rivers State Police Command, on Wednesday, announced the dismissal of one Inspector Michael Odey over his involvement in a $3,000 extortion case.

Odey alongside two Assistant Superintendents of Police, Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo, were accused of kidnapping and extorting two men.

The three officers reportedly whisked their unsuspecting victims to three states before dispossessing them of the said amount, an equivalent of N4.2 million.
