Fidelity Bank Partners Lagos State, NCF to Champion Recycling and Environmental Sustainability

By Newsmediang

In a bold move to promote environmental sustainability and curb plastic pollution, Fidelity Bank Plc has partnered with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and the Lagos State Government to encourage responsible waste management among Nigerians.

As part of its commitment, the leading financial institution donated large-capacity recycling bins to Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) during the 19th edition of the “Walk for Nature” event held on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Themed “Lagos, Let’s Beat Plastic Pollution,” the event — jointly organised by the NCF and the Lagos State Government — aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution and promote sustainable waste management practices across communities.

Fidelity Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability

Speaking at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank Plc, emphasized the bank’s unwavering dedication to environmental consciousness and community impact.

“As a socially responsible institution, we integrate sustainability into all aspects of our business. Beyond reducing our carbon footprint through renewable energy, we are also deepening our advocacy for recycling and waste reduction,”
Dr. Nwagboh stated.

He explained that Fidelity Bank’s donation of three large-capacity recycling bins to YABATECH forms part of its ongoing drive to inspire students to adopt responsible waste management practices.

“Beating plastic pollution starts with conscious personal choices. By reducing single-use plastics and embracing recycling, we can make Lagos a model megacity for environmental stewardship,”
He added.

Partners Commend the Bank’s Initiative

Chairman, National Executive Council of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), Hon. Justice R.I.B. Adebiyi, described plastic pollution as one of the most pressing environmental challenges globally.

“This year’s Walk for Nature is unique because we are taking the message directly to young people. Fidelity Bank’s donation represents learning, responsibility, and change,”
She said.

Representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, commended the collaborative effort, describing plastic pollution as a “silent crisis” that demands urgent attention and community participation.

YABATECH Appreciates Fidelity Bank and LAWMA

In his remarks, the Rector of YABATECH, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) — which also donated two recycling bins — for supporting the college’s green campus initiative.

> “The recycling bins will be strategically placed across our campus to promote environmental sustainability and responsible waste disposal among students,”
Dr. Abdul stated.

Fidelity Bank’s Broader Environmental Agenda

The donation aligns with Fidelity Bank’s broader sustainability agenda, which includes tree planting campaigns, renewable energy deployment across its branches, and urban beautification projects in underserved communities.

With over 9.1 million customers across 255 business offices in Nigeria and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited, Fidelity Bank continues to champion innovation, social responsibility, and sustainable growth.

The bank’s recent recognitions include:
