How Female Bomber carrying Baby on her back, Stormed the Wedding Venue, Detonated the IED in Borno
No fewer than six people have been killed and many others injured as two suicide bombers struck at a wedding venue in Gwoza, Borno State on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
The two female bombers reportedly detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the wedding held at a busy motor park called Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town around 1:30 p.m.
According to a survivor, the first bomber, identified as a young mother probably in her twenties, pretended to be a guest at the event.
While carrying a baby on her back, she stormed the venue and detonated the IED, shattering the joy and celebration of the special day.
Disguising as a mourner, the second bomber struck at a burial ground where the dead person was being buried, killing one person in the process.
Confirming the incident, Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, said he was informed by the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza, that at least six people were killed with 15 others evacuated to the hospital.
The injured victims are receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Gwoza, Pulse learnt.
“We heard a very loud sound of explosives, accompanied by dust; then we saw bodies on the ground,” another witness, Muhammed Kasim, narrated.
As a result of the incident, the military has declared a curfew in Gwoza with immediate effect.
