Meta Platforms Incorporated, under the leadership of Sir Nick Clegg, the former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta’s President of Global Affairs, has announced that Instagram will soon offer a feature allowing Nigerian content creators to monetize their content.

The new feature, set to be launched in June 2024, aims to empower indigenous creators to generate income through the platform.

This information was disclosed during a visit by the delegation to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

“Collaborating with Nigeria to strengthen partnerships is a key focus for us,” Clegg expressed.

President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in information and communications technology across Africa.

The government is actively investing in digital technology to support small businesses and create opportunities in various sectors.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to embrace technological advancements and expand capacities through strategic partnerships.

Nigeria’s youth population was recognized as a vital asset, with plans in place to train three million youths in digital technology and essential skills before integrating them into innovation hubs nationwide through the 3MTT program.

“Nigeria is eager to lead in digital technology on the African continent. We are prepared to engage in collaborations that benefit all parties,” stated President Tinubu.

He stressed the significance of technology in advancing small businesses to boost economic growth and foster prosperity.

Addressing Clegg, Tinubu expressed appreciation for an executive order facilitating the Meta-backed deep-sea cable’s installation in Nigeria, outlining its potential impact on economic activity.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized the critical role of Meta platforms in Nigeria and the importance of partnerships for digital economy development.

“Creating opportunities through engagement and collaboration is essential for ensuring our populace benefits from global prosperity through digital technology,” stated the Minister.
