NAOSNP Security Conference– ICPC, EFCC Call for Unity to Tackle Corruption

The 2025 National Security Conference and Awards, organised by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), brought together Nigeria’s top security and anti-corruption institutions with a resounding message: national security and the fight against corruption are inseparable.

Held on October 21, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the event spotlighted the crucial roles of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in safeguarding Nigeria’s stability.

Representing ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu, the Commission’s Lagos Commissioner, Chukwurah Alexander, described corruption as a “silent enemy” of national security — one that “turns thieves into chiefs” and weakens the foundation of justice.

“If you want ICPC and EFCC to succeed, all of us must come to the table,” Alexander said, urging synergy among security agencies, the media, civil society, and citizens in tackling graft from all fronts.

In a related panel session, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, who represented the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), stressed that protecting Nigeria’s wealth requires a multidimensional approach.

“The Nigerian Police Force is now knowledge-driven, intelligence-led, and digitally equipped to disrupt economic crimes before they emerge,” he said, emphasizing the need to safeguard fiscal systems and block illicit financial flows.

The EFCC’s presence was marked by the remarks of DCE Ayo Oyewole, head of Public Affairs (Lagos), who represented EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede. He called on Nigerians to embrace civic vigilance.

“Say something when you hear something,” Oyewole urged, unveiling the Commission’s new EFCC Eagle Eye App — a mobile platform that enables anonymous reporting of suspected fraud, complete with options to upload evidence and receive whistleblower rewards.

Throughout the conference, participants agreed that sustainable security cannot exist without financial integrity and public trust. Collaboration among agencies like the EFCC, ICPC, and the police, they said, remains critical to preserving Nigeria’s economic and social fabric.
