The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has called the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, Peter Obi, a Tsunami.

Obi had run into the monarch at the official commissioning of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company in Lagos on Monday.

The monarch who was seen exchanging pleasantries with other VIPs, was later sighted greeting Obi who was also accompanied by the y former Governor of Cross River, Donald Duke. As Obi greeted the monarch, he was heard saying “The Tsunami, the Tsunami himself” to which both Obi and Duke burst into laughter.

The “tsunami “ in the context where it was used by Ooni, referred to the manner in which Obi came almost from nowhere to cause upsets in the last general elections.
The former Governor of Anambra had pulled out of the People’s Democratic Party where he ran as Vice Presidential candidate in 2019 to join the Labour Party emerging as its candidate for the presidential election. Obi had, within a very short time, become the me toast of many young Nigerians who were believed to be upset with the current government.

Against all expectations, Obi had defeated the eventual winner Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Lagos state. Since 1999 when Nigeria returned to civilian rule, Tinubu, who is set to be sworn in on May 29, had had a grip on the politics of the state.
