Yoruba Welfare Group Condemns Attack on Barr Waheed Olatunde Lawal
By Comrade Adegoke Alawuje
Yoruba Welfare Group, a socio-cultural organisation canvassing and promoting the general well-being of Yoruba sons and daughters at home and abroad has totally condemned an assassination attempt on one of its prominent members, Barrister Waheed Olatunde Lawal at Ilua, a suburb of Shaki in the Oke-Ogun Area of Oyo State.
The dastardly act, according to the release signed by the group’s National Chairman, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, was alleged to have been sponsored by Baale Ilua, Chief Kilani Omofoyewa Azeez. The Video clips that had gone viral on social media, according to him, equally supported this claim as he claimed to have gotten the mandate of the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Saki West to arrest Bar Lawal and three others.
Yoruba Welfare Group calls on the Inspector General of Police and the DSS to carry out a discreet investigation to get to the root of the matter. It’s a serious concern, if in this age, one unrecognized Baale would be operating like a tout and be administering the law of jungles. The National Coordinator of the group therefore, calls on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to raise a powerful investigative team, to put a lasting stop to jungle justice in our society. According to him, “It is a madness that must be decisively checked”.
“Barrister Lawal, apart from being a prominent member of Yoruba Welfare Group, is well known across the country as a human rights activist, a reputable legal practitioner and an astute politician, who always strives for the emancipation and development of Shakiland, in particular, and the entire Oke-Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State, as a whole. To us, an injustice to one is an injustice to all”, Alawuje
We are less concerned about what had transpired between the parties but our mandate is to ensure peace, and well-being of Yoruba anywhere. The attack on Barrister Lawal is barbaric, ungodly and criminal and the perpetrators must be prosecuted.
Yoruba welfare group is calling for serious caution on this ungodly attack, because this is how it started in some parts of the country that have been taken over by bandits, like Zamfara, Katsina, Nasarawa, Biringwari and Niger state, it happens when the villagers hired criminals to surround them for their security purpose an end up taking over the affairs from the village heads and continued dealing with the mining company directly by themselves.
A stich in time saves nine.
