£543,482,213 Probe: ‘If it Were in China, Emefiele Would Have Face Firing Squad by Now’– Bayo Onanuga

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been caught in a controversy, with a claim that he would have faced a firing squad if he were in China. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, made this statement in reaction to the Special Investigation on CBN and Related Entities, Chargeable Offences report.

The report alleged that Emefiele and his associates were involved in serious financial misappropriation, which Onanuga emphasized would have severe consequences in China. The report accused Emefiele of unauthorized opening of bank accounts and illegal deposition of billions of naira in various foreign accounts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China.

According to the report by Jim Obazee, Emefiele deposited £543,482,213 in fixed deposits in UK banks without proper authorization.

Onanuga, in a post on X, wrote that if such misappropriations had occurred in China, Emefiele and his associates would have been facing the firing squad by now for high treason.
