The Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN), Lagos State chapter on Thursday, November 23rd paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Information and sought collaboration with the government department.

The newly elected PJAN executives and some elders of the association were received by the Director, of Public Affairs in the ministry, Segun Ogundeji on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Olumide Shogunle who later joined the meeting. The Permanent Secretary stood in for the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who was out on official duties.

Ogundeji welcomed the visitors and introduced the senior members of the ministry present during the meeting which include the director, Features/Editor, Alausa Alert, Tayo Ogunbiyi, Director, Strategy Center, Kayode Oyekanmi, Assistant Director/ Head, ICT Monisola Ayejoto and others

Speaking during the meeting, PJAN vice chairman, David Adejo reeled out the purpose of the meeting on behalf of the chairman, Princess Alaba Igbaroola, who was unavoidably absent.

According to Adejo, the meeting afforded the new excos to familiarize themselves with the Ministry as well as seek collaboration with the government agency on how to improve the practice of photojournalism in the state.

The PJAN vice chairman also pleaded with the Ministry’s management to allow their staff cameramen and photojournalists to join PJAN, and also to attend the association’s monthly meeting. By so doing, their staff will be open to partake in regular activities of the association, including regular seminars, training, exhibitions and exposure to modern trends in the practice of photojournalism.

In a statement made available to the public by PJAN vice chairman, David Adejo and signed by the Secretary, Kazeem Bakenne, stated that the highly robust and interactive discussion with the ministry officials was illuminating and fruitful.

PJAN Secretary was quoted as saying that the meeting was for the progress of the association and betterment of the ministry and by extension, the Lagos State Government in areas of information dissemination, training and regular collaboration.

Among the elders that accompanied the new PJAN executives to the meeting are the immediate past chairman, Otunba Kolawole Olasupo, Ademola Akinlabi, Sunday Adedeji, Kola Akinro, Kehinde Shonola; while Abiodun Omotoso, Adeleke Adebanjo and Paul Timothy completed the Exco members.
